About the Artist
Leon Thompson is a 21 year old artist and illustrator, and a co-director of Queer Cumbria CIC, originally from Carlisle. They are currently studying for their BA in Illustration.
Through their own experiences of queerness and disability, Leon has developed a unique perspective on the human experience and the importance of creativity, which has become the basis of their artistic practice. His work, which focuses on linework and precise details, utilizes a wide range of materials and techniques, including inks, oil paints, bookbinding and clothing design, with the aim of promoting creativity and self-expression. Throughout their artistic journey, Leon has found value in all forms of creativity, and their work stretches from politically informed pieces, to artworks made with the sole intention of being pleasing to look at.
Leon is currently based in Huddersfield, working on their BA Final Major Project and the Queer Cumbria magazine, and travelling to Cumbria regularly to work with queer charities and collectives to run art workshops and events.
